Orthopedic Foundation for Animals
Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) was founded in 1966 as a private not-for-profit organization. OFA mission is to, “To improve the health and well-being of companion animals through a reduction in the incidence of genetic disease.” Not only is there OFA but they created another association which is the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC). CHIC allows parent clubs to become partners that help with research and maintains information of a certain type of breed. The MASCUSA is a part of the CHIC program. The Miniature American Shepherd CHIC program requires the following health testing:
• Hip Dysplasia
• Eye Examination by a boarded ACVO Ophthalmologist
• Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) DNA Test
• Multiple Drug Sensitivity
• HSF4 - Hereditary Cataracts
• Collie Eye Anomaly (Optional)
• Elbow Dysplasia (Optional)
• Degnerative Myelopathy (Optional)
